Marcus Aurelius, AD 161-180. AR Denarius minted at Rome, AD 161-169. Praetorian galley left. Reverse: Legionary eagle between two standards. RIC III, p. 248, 443 [as Scarce]. Lightly toned. Superb Extremely Fine.

This truly rare denarius, especially in this grade and quality of striking, commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Actium, and is certainly one of the finest examples known. Since the types are copied from an earlier issue, it is called a restitution emission.
Estimated Value $1,500 - 2,000.
