Sale 122

Lot 342

1886. Variety 2. PCGS graded MS-64 Red & Brown. CAC. Eagle Eye Photo Seal. Full strike. Nearly full red and very scarce as such. Expect fierce bidding for this beauty. The obverse was redesigned this year by Charles Barber. The Indian head was made slightly wider than the previous design. The easy way to identify the differences between the two types minted this year is to look at the final feather of the headdress. On the Type 1 the feather points between the I and C on AMERICA. On the Type 2, it points between the C and A. Pop 151; 44 finer for MSRB at PCGS. (PCGS # 92155) Estimated Value $2,300 - 2,500
Ex Norman Thomas Collection.

Realized $2,520
