Lot 3339

Russia. Ruble, 1704. Diakov-p.69,9; Sev-152; Uzd-0464. This first ruble of Peter I is struck over a 1655 Jefimok (Rarity-4) and shows very clear remnants of the obverse counterstamps. The original host coin is a taler of Austria of uncertain type, though with time spent in careful examination, this too may be determined. The only other specimen of over striking on a Jefimok is shown in Spassky, but this specimen is better. Extremely rare and desirable. PCGS graded EF-45.
Estimated Value $35,000 - 45,000.
The Dr. Robert Hesselgesser Collection.
