L. Marcius Philippus, moneyer. AR Denarius minted at Rome, 113-112 BC. Head right of Philip V of Macedon, wearing diademed helmet ornamented with goat's horns; below chin, Φ. Reverse: Equestrian statue right on tablet inscribed L. PHILIPPVS, horseman holding palm branch; below horse's feet, flower; below tablet, XVI in monogram. Sear 170; Marcia 12; Cr. 293/1; Syd. 551. Tiny banker's mark in obverse right field. Attractive toning. Choice Very Fine.

The equestrian statue probably depicts L. Marcius Q.f. Philippus, who concluded a treaty of friendship with Philip V of Macedon.
