A. Manlius Q.f. Sergianus, moneyer. AR Denarius minted at Rome, 118-107 BC. Helmeted head right of Roma. Reverse: Sol, head right, in quadriga facing, rising from waves, between two stars; to upper left, X; to upper right, crescent. Sear 186; Manlia 1; Cr. 309/1; Syd. 543. Struck from slightly worn dies. Toned. Choice Very Fine and extremely rare.

The reverse type represents the accomplishments of C. Manlius Vulso in 189-188 BC; he was victorious against the Gauls in Galatia, and he concluded the treaty of Aparnea with Antiochus III of Syria. Sol personifies the East.
