1828 N-11 R2 Large Date PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Very attractive frosty light brown with steel brown toning on the highest points of the devices. Peeps of mint color remain visible in protected areas on both sides. The surfaces are nearly flawless and this cent offers great eye appeal. The only notable mark is an inconspicuous nick between the hair bun and star 11. Nicely struck E-MDS. The fields show very fine radial flowlines but the gross repunching left of the first S in STATES and left of the O in OF is clear. Our grade is MS60+, close to MS62. A beautiful cent that comes with an important provenance. The attribution and Newcomb-Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 5; tied for finest MS BN of the variety at both services. PCGS #36901. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP Ex Howard R. Newcomb, J. C. Morgenthau & Co. 5/16/1945:602-Floyd T. Starr, Stack's 6/13/1984:216-Andrew Hain (Hain Family Collection), Stack's 1/15/2002:784 (as MS65)-Walsh Family Collection, Heritage 1/4/2006:610-Gene Heard Collection.
