Lot 3074

Great Britain. Bronze penny, 1870. Victoria Bun Head. S-3954. One of the semi-key dates which lists in Spink at £450 "Unc." This, however, is an amazing specimen which looks almost as it must have the day it was made at the Royal Mint. Almost flawless surfaces. Two tiny, nearly invisible lines on the queen's cheek, to be completely frank, but these fade as the eye wanders over the gorgeous glowing orange-red surfaces which show a hint of sea-green iridescence. The reverse is a study in satiny red frost! Lightly clashed dies. Faint diebreaks on both sides. Cartwheel flash. Super-sharp strike showing all tiny details. This coin bedazzles! NGC graded MS-65 Red.
Estimated Value $900 - 1,100.
The Cheshire Collection.
