1864. Bronze. PCGS graded Proof 65 Red & Brown. This beauty exhibits loading golden iridescent yellow and red colors. The strike is precise and bold as expected for a Proof, and the surfaces are outstanding too, with full reflectivity and ample mint color remaining. 1864 was a transitional year for the Indian cent, the initial output continued with the copper (75%) and nickel (25%) planchets, thicker and more of a lighter silver color overall, then came the bronze planchets which are 95% copper and 5% tin and zinc. Last but not least the designer James B. Longacre's tiny initial "L" was added to the ribbon near the bottom feather on the headdress. For this bronze version, only 150 were struck.
