Lot 303

1853 N-4 R3+ Boldly Repunched 3 PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Attractive glossy medium brown and light chocolate. Satiny mint frost covers the fields and protected areas and the eye appeal is excellent. Would rate a higher grade if not for a few contact marks, including a small but fresh nick at the upper right point of star 2 and several contact marks that break the toning around NE in ONE. Sharply struck EDS, die state a. The repunching over the 3 is strong and the fine die lines over the N in UNITED are sharp. Our grade is EF45+, tied for CC#7 overall but second finest of the EDS in the Grellman census. The attribution and Iskra provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 64 for the variety at PCGS. Estimated Value $350-UP

Ex McLaughlin & Robinson Auctions #67, lot 647-R. S. Brown, Jr., McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 6/2/2002:1142-Fred Iskra Collection (includes the Brown collection envelope and lot ticket).
