MacArthur, Douglas (1880-1964) American general and Allied Supreme Commander in the Pacific in World War II; accepted the surrender of Japan and was dismissed by President Truman during the Korean War for advocating an invasion of China. Two First Day Covers Signed, one with Sept. 27, 1944 cancellation "Honoring the Oppressed Nation Philippines" and one cancelled Dec 7 1945 with cachet "Yokosuka, Japan / Occupation of Japan."; also with "US Navy" and "USS Bronson." "Tokyo Bay" is stamped across a block of Japanese stamps. A third FDC honoring MacArthur is not signed.
