Lot 296

1838 N-6 R1 NGC graded MS63 Brown, CAC Approved. Frosty medium brown and light chocolate. The portrait is sharply struck and this cent has excellent eye appeal. The only notable marks are a small planchet flake on the rim over the E in STATES and a speck of carbon right of the second S in STATES. Looks solidly mint state but there is a hint of rub on the very highest points of the portrait. M-LDS. The spike from the leaf below the R in AMERICA is dull but still visible and fine diagonal die lines have been added to the reverse fields, clearest at NE in ONE and over TED in UNITED. A neat intermediate die state. Our grade is AU58+. The attribution is noted on the NGC label. Pop 5; 4 graded higher at NGC for the variety, 2 in 64, 1 in 65, 1 in 66. Estimated Value $400 - UP
