Lot 294

1838 N-4 R2 PCGS graded MS65 Brown, CAC Approved. Very attractive lustrous light olive and bluish steel brown with 10% of the planchet showing mint red, mostly on the reverse. The surfaces are satiny and this cent has excellent eye appeal, but there are a few small marks. The notable marks are a collection of small ticks at star 4, several small rim nicks at ICA, and a spot of darker olive toning touching the leaf under the I in AMERICA. MDS with a die crack from the rim down through star 9 and the portrait to the 83. A small internal cud break along the crack touches the left point of star 9. A very attractive cent in spite of the small marks. Graded MS61 in the Noyes census, his photo #35112. Our grade is MS60+. Previously removed from a PCGS slab graded MS65RB (PCGS label #1742.65/30036395, but the red has faded a bit since the earlier PCGS assessment). The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 5; 3 finer: 2 in 66, 1 in 67. PCGS #37189. Estimated Value $800 - UP
