Lot 292

1839 N-2 R2 Head of 1838 PCGS graded MS62 Brown. Lustrous light olive and brown with dark chocolate toning on the upper left third of the obverse and lower right quadrant of the reverse. Satiny flowline luster covers the fields and protected areas on both sides. A mint state cent but the uneven toning is a distraction. Just a few trivial contact marks including a trio of tiny ticks on the rim at stars 4-5 and a fine diagonal hairline through the left points of star 12. LDS. The die lines on the reverse are gone and the legends are drawn to the rims on both sides. This is the Noyes plate coin for the late die state of the variety. Noyes graded MS60, his photo #39887. Our grade is AU58+, very close to mint state. The attribution and Twin Leaf Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Estimate Value $850 - UP
