Lot 288

1852 N-12/13 R1 Repunched 18 PCGS graded MS65+ Red & Brown. Lustrous mint red fading to light steel brown with at least 75% of the bright mint red showing on the obverse while the reverse is a more mellowed light steel brown with underlying faded mint red covering the fields and protected areas. The surfaces are satiny and the eye appeal of this cent is outstanding. Essentially flawless. The best identifying marks, and they are barely visible with a glass, are two tiny specks of dark toning off the bust tip and a thin struck-through line caused by debris on the die between the date and star 13. MDS, die state b (Newcomb's #13). The repunching on the 18 is gone and a dull die crack connects the bust to star 1. A beautiful cent in every respect. Our grade is MS64, tied for CC#4 in the Grellman census. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 66 for the variety at PCGS. Estimated Value $1,000-UP
