Lot 285

1803 S-254 R1. PCGS graded AU-58+. CAC Approved. Frosty tan and light steel brown with slightly darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. Satiny mint luster covers much of the fields and protected areas on both sides and this cent offers excellent eye appeal. Just a hint of rub on the highest points from mint state. EDS, Breen state I, with an uncracked obverse. Shallow low spots caused by debris (probably lubricating grease) on the dies cover much of the neck, portions of the obverse fields, and around the lower half of the wreath. Graded MS60 net AU55 and tied for CC#12 in the Noyes census, his photo #27930. Our grade is AU55+. The attribution and Reynolds provenance are noted on the PCGS Secure label. Pop 2; 3 finer at PCGS for the variety, 1 in MS62, 1 in MS63, and 1 in MS64 (PCGS # 36377) .
Estimated Value $4,000-UP.
Ex Bowers & Merena 8/3/1983:283-Denis Loring 8/1983 (lot ticket included).
