Gloria Swanson, Cecil B. De Mille Signed Portraits Celebrating Sunset Boulevard. SUNSET BOULEVARD remains to this day, one of the most caustic black comedies of Hollywood in film history. Nominated for 11 Academy Awards and winning 3, the film starred Gloria Swanson as the forgotten silent screen star Norma Desmond who longs for a come-back by working with her favorite director, Cecil B. deMille. In the offer are two scarce 8" x 10" photos struck, inscribed and signed nearly 42 years apart. The first is of Gloria Swanson signing a rare black and white enlargement from an actual frame of 35 mm film from the climactic shot of the film immortalized by the line "I'm ready for my close-up Mr. deMille." Photo was inscribed and signed by Swanson in 1981. And what perfect match could there possible be but a very striking vintage original still of Cecil B.deMille from Paramount Studios in 1939, boldly signed in black fountain pen. Photos are in overall excellent condition showing slight evidence of handling. The Swanson, since taken from a frame of film does show the fine emulsion scratches within the frame of film but otherwise as solid an image available at the time from the film pre DVD. With the deMille a very minor tear in top white center border held in check with tape on verso. A great pair of photos for fans of one of the greatest films ever made. Estimated Value $250 - 400.
