Great Britain. Kings of All England. AR Penny, ND (Southwark, struck 1046-1048). North-817; S-1174. 1.16 grams. Edward the Confessor, 1042-1066 AD. Quadrilateral Trefoil type. Moneyer, Bru(n)man. Diademed and draped bust left, scepter before; +EDP(W?)E: RER around (legend somewhat blundered). Reverse: Central circle, short voided cross within, over center a quadrilateral with finials of three pellets and one at center; + BRVNME(?)N ON GVÐ around. Outstanding strike, on a full flan of choice metal. Medium to deep gray toning, with gorgeous, intensely colored peacock iridescence throughout the recesses. A visual delight! NGC graded MS-65.

Obverse variant legend evidently engraved by an illiterate die-cutter.
Estimated Value $1,700 - 2,000.
