1783 Washington Unity Cent Breen-1188. Fine-15. Misaligned Dies with Partial Railroad Rim. Sharpness VF30 but the fields are covered with microscopic roughness under a thin layer of dark greenish olive verdigris. A few fine hairline scratches across the upper half of the obverse blend into the patina. Slightly glossy olive and chocolate with lighter steel brown highpoints. The planchet appears to be quite brassy rather than the usual copper alloy seen on this variety. In addition, the dies were obviously misaligned, especially on the reverse where that side is clearly off center to K-10.5. The die misalignment caused a partial railroad rim extending from K-11 clockwise to K-4 on the obverse. An extremely rare error.
