Lot 2263

Great Britain. Crown, 1691. S.3433; ESC-82. William and Mary. Tertio edge. blundered legend with "I" over "E" in the king's Latin name. Rare type, in fact one of the rarer crowns of England from the last 400 years. Subtle luster beneath quite attractive dark golden bluish gray toning. Nice strike, no defects except for a large black haymark (metal flaw, oxidized tin in the native Welsh silver) in the the middle of the king's throat, good rims without marks, free from the usual myriad of scratches and abrasions seen on these early, large silver coins. NGC graded AU-50.
Estimated Value $3,500 - 4,500.
