Lot 2171

1857-S $2.50 Liberty. PCGS graded MS-61. Nice untoned coin. In PCGS holder 10818367. Collectors have before them an exceedingly important opening for the advanced quarter eagle specialist to acquire this rarity in full Mint State grade. It is sharply struck with highly lustrous golden color and hints of pink from the copper alloy. Some experts suggested that this issue is almost always poorly defined, even that "flat strikes are the rule." The present example is a fine exception, one of few Mint State specimens known with full strike on the key design features. Only 14,000 coins struck. Pop 2; 4 finer; 3 in 62; 1 in 64. (PCGS # 7785) .
Estimated Value $4,500 - 5,000.

Realized $4,715
