Lot 2092

1860. NGC graded AU-58. CAC Approved. Struck on a pale green-gold planchet with yellow-gold patina and frosty surfaces. Light wear and a couple of abrasions on the obverse keep this from a higher (Mint State) grade level. With the substantial gold discoveries in California, 1849-1860s, construction and operation of the San Francisco Mint meant that much less gold had to be shipped back to Philadelphia, thus much lower mintages resulted. In 1860, only 577,670 double eagles were minted at Philadelphia. Housed in an Old Style Holder. Pop 276; 97 finer (PCGS # 8929) .
Estimated Value $3,600 - 3,800.

Realized $4,406
