Lot 2075
1873. Closed 3. PCGS graded MS-63. Lovely golden toning. Only 49,280 minted of which merely 750 examples are estimated to have survived. The surfaces are radiant and each side has a nice veneer of natural patina that whips and tosses as it alternates between lighter and darker shades. Often, a soft impact was left by the recoil of the likely worn dies that struck this period’s coinage (1860s-1870s); but in a few instances like the present 1873 Liberty half eagle, the opposite is the case and the coin has a convincing consistent detail throughout. Pop 11; 8 finer (PCGS # 8329) . Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,400.
