Lot 200

1830 N-2 R2 Large Letters PCGS graded AU50. Beautiful frosty bluish steel and chocolate delicately woodgrained with some lighter toning on the obverse. Traces of faded mint red remain visible on the reverse. There is a trace of friction on the highest points of the portrait but the reverse looks mint state. The only mark is a fine scratch near the dentils at stars 12-13. M-LDS. A radial die crack connects star 13 to the dentils but the line from the ribbon to the U in UNITED remains visible. A double profile (from die bounce or "machine doubling") shows on the forehead. Graded AU55 net AU50 and tied for CC#8 in the Noyes census, his photo #28377. Our grade is EF45+, close to AU50. Looks like the folks at PCGS were a bit tight with this one based on their usual standards. The attribution and Twin Leaf Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS #36940. Pop 2; 7 graded higher at PCGS for the variety. Estimated Value $800 - UP
