Lot 1994

1909-D. PCGS graded MS-64. Frosty and untoned. Only 52,500 minted. This date was once widely considered a major rarity in Mint condition, but the emergence of a Central American hoard in 1983 has made the '09-D generally available in grades up to and including the MS63 level. Choice MS64 and finer grades, however, remind us this issue continues to be very elusive. Softly frosted with pleasing cartwheel effects, the surfaces are tinged in bright reddish-gold hues. Both sides are well produced with sharp definition and freedom from all but a few, mostly small abrasions. Mention is made of a few little blemishes on Liberty, a minor scratch in the field by the branch end; the eagle is especially choice here and free from all but the most minor luster scuffs. Very scarce grade. Pop 151; 30 finer (PCGS # 9152) .
Estimated Value $8,500 - 9,000.
