Lot 188

1864-S. PCGS graded VG-10. This is an extremely tough date to find in any grade, and importantly for the numismatist is the lowest mintage (20,000 pieces) San Francisco Liberty Seated Quarter. Furthermore this coin was struck during the Civil War, way out West in San Francisco where it served long in circulation, but preserved with most of its features sharp and clear. Today perhaps 100 or so exist, PCGS in their CoinFacts reference estimate only 80 exist in all grades, but we estimate there are likely a few more. This example is quite respectable with a full LIBERTY on the shield, smooth even wear and no troubling circulation marks. Lightly toned with classic silver-gray hues, deepening around the devices. A desirable and truly rare coin in any grade! Pop 8; 68 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 5460) Estimated Value $800 - 850

Realized $1,260
