Lot 178
1796 S-105 R5+ Draped Bust. VF-25. Repunched 6. Sharpness EF45 with very fine roughness mostly hidden under a glossy patina of dark olive and steel brown with lighter chocolate brown highpoints on the obverse. No verdigris on the obverse, only some tiny specks of raised corrosion hidden in the wreath on the reverse. The roughness is strongest in the left obverse field, but even that area is rather smooth. A small, very shallow planchet flake in the center of the cheek (as struck) is the best identifying mark. Sharply struck MDS, Breen state II, with fine die clashmarks on both sides. The repunching at the base of the 6 is strong. Called AU50 net VF35 and CC#2 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF40 net F15 and tied for CC#2, photo #25368. DWH #2740. Estimated Value $10,000-UP.
