Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 103

Lot 1748

1883-CC. NGC graded AU-53. Struck in classic rich yellow gold, with traces of luster in the protected areas and clean surfaces throughout. A popular Carson City date that is always in high demand, especially so for this curious "dot" after the date. There was a similar "dot" after certain 1884 silver dollars of this era, what this "dot" meant is now lost as far as we know, but must have been some kind of marker applied by the various mints that would identify these coins as coming from certain dies. The consistent location and apparently purposeful marking leaves us to wonder of the reason for this effort. Only 59,962 struck for the year (PCGS # 8999) Estimate Value $5,000 - 5,500

Realized $5,523
