Lot 174

1848 N-42 R5 PCGS graded AU58+. Glossy medium brown and light olive, the reverse with delicate overtones of bluish steel and hints of very faded mint color in a couple places. Satiny mint frost covers the fields and protected areas and the eye appeal is outstanding. The only marks are a small spot of darker olive toning left of star 1 and a tiny vertical nick on the chin. EDS, die state a early (there is no state b for this variety). The fields are slightly reflective and show many fine die polishing lines. A choice cent. Our grade is AU50, second finest of this rare die variety in the Grellman census. The attribution and Iskra provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 63 for the variety at PCGS. Estimated Value $2,000-UP
