Lot 173

1848 N-41 R1 PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown. Lustrous mint red fading to light olive and steel brown. Nearly a third of the original red remains on the obverse and 80% on the reverse. The toning in the field behind the head is a couple shades darker than the other toning on the obverse. There are two inconspicuous small spots left of star 1 plus one more right of star 13. Otherwise this cent is a gem and the reverse is flawless. E-MDS showing minor crumbling in the left notch of the second 8. A very nice cent. Our grade is MS64, tied for CC#2 in the Grellman census. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; none finer for the variety at PCGS. Estimated Value $750-UP

Ex Teletrade 3/21/2005-Evan L. Kopald, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 9/20/2010:1145-Fred Iskra Collection (includes the Kopald lot ticket).
