Lot 17

1817 N-10 R1 PCGS graded MS65 Brown. The obverse is lustrous chocolate brown with bluish steel overtones and small splashes of slightly lighter brown toning mixed in. The reverse is frosty medium brown with slightly darker steel brown highpoints. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and the eye appeal is excellent. A small spot of darker chocolate brown toning on the left upright of the N in CENT is the only notable mark. MDS with a tiny rim cud break connecting two dentils at star 2 and several small die chips down from the dentils right of the second S in STATES (apparently caused by a small screw that damaged the reverse die during this marriage). Called MS63 Choice and tied for CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photo #28838. Bland says MS60 and tied for CC#4. Our grade is MS62. The attribution and Naftzger-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 4; tied for finest RB of the variety at both services. PCGS #36577. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP
