Lot 168

1837 N-13 R2 Plain Hair Cord, Medium Letters PCGS graded MS66 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Beautiful lustrous mint red mellowing to light steel brown with at least two-thirds of the original mint color remaining on both sides. Mint frost covers this cent, even the highest points of the devices, and the eye appeal is exceptional in every respect. The best identifying mark, and it is barely visible, is a microscopic speck of fine carbon nestled under the end of the wreath ribbon. M-LDS. The die crack through most of the legend outside the wreath is fine but easily visible and the repunching on the N in UNITED is still present over the left base of that letter. Graded MS65 Choice and tied for CC#1 honors in the Noyes census, his photo #35153. Bland says MS65 and tied for CC#2. Our grade is MS65. We all agree: this is a great cent. And it comes with a wonderful provenance. The attribution and Naftzger-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; finest RB of the variety at both services. PCGS #37166. Estimate Value $4,000 - UP
