Lot 168

1847 N-23 R5 VF35. Slightly sharper but there are a few more small nicks on the obverse than you like to see at this sharpness level. Most of the ticks are on the cheek and a couple are in the field under star 5. Otherwise this cent is quite nice and the toning is a very attractive light chocolate brown. Underlying mint frost covers the fields and protected areas, particularly on the reverse. M-LDS, die state d late, with strong die cracks on the reverse but no cud breaks. However there is a clearly sunken retained cud break on the rim over AM. A neat die state, one of the finest known with the sunken retained cud break in the Grellman census. And this cent comes with a nice provenance. Estimated Value $200 - UP
