$5 Gold Liberty. 1897-S. NGC graded MS-63. A relatively low mintage date, 354,000, when compared with the mintage figures of the Philadelphia issues of the period which were well into the millions. In this grade there are few survivors and only several examples are known to exist finer, all in sporadic groups up to the superb gem level. Nice rose tones interspersed with orange-gold surfaces. Lustrous and original. NGC has graded 2 in MS63, with 7 finer.
