1851 $1 Gold Liberty. PCGS graded MS-67. Well struck and very frosty. A few breaks in the luster from perfection. For the first time since the launch of the gold dollar in 1849, production at the Philadelphia Mint exceeded a million coins in 1851. A fair total of 3.3 millions coins were produced to make up for the absence of silver dollar coins, and, as one might surmise from this mintage figure, the 1851-P is a popular and readily obtained coin for type sets. Of course, at the MS67 grade, this issue is a significant condition rarity. What a breathtaking Superb Gem it is. The surfaces are overlaid in fine-grained, satin-smooth mint frost that exhibits lovely reddish-gold color. We have no doubt about this coin's originality, and the razor sharp strike completes the already memorable eye appeal. Pop 1; none finer. (PCGS # 6939) .
