1794 S-43 R2 PCGS graded AU58. Frosty dark steel brown and chocolate. No corrosion or verdigris, only a few dull nicks and microscopic planchet chips from choice. The tiny planchet chips (as struck), are mostly above the head and around ERICA. The contact marks are a dull nick on the E in UNITED, another between that I & T, one more right of the D, and two more on the E in ONE. These marks are not distracting and the eye appeal of this cent is excellent. E-MDS, Breen state II, showing a fine die crack from the dentils through the U to the leaf below and die clashmarks on both sides. In addition there is a fine double profile on the forehead, nose, and lips. Graded AU55 net AU50 and tied for CC#3 in the Noyes census, his photo #34712. Bland says AU50 and tied for CC#3 as well. Our grade is AU50. A great cent that comes with a long provenance of distinguished cent collectors. The attribution and Reynolds provenance are noted on the PCGS Secure label.
