1856-S. PCGS graded MS-63 PQ. CAC Approved. Gold Foil Tag. A lovely untoned example that offers radiant luster, the expected sharp strike and excpetional surfaces for the grade assigned. It is worth noting that Type 1 double eagles were virtually unobtainable in MS-63 prior tothe recovery of a few shipwrecks. Naturally not all dates and mints have been found, but for type collectors at last there is a chance to see just how beautiful these coins were at time they were struck--and before they became abraded by jostling about.
