1835 N-8 R1 Head of 1836 PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Choice lustrous bluish steel and olive with at least 20% of the mellowed mint color remaining. A beautiful cent with only microscopic marks, none visible without the aid of a strong glass. A small splash of slightly darker toning at the leaves off the top of the T in CENT is the best identifying mark. E-MDS with a die crack reaching from the dentils up through the 1 in the date and the portrait into the hair behind the ear and weakly to the right top of the T in LIBERTY where it fades away. Graded MS60 and tied for CC#4 in the Noyes census, his photo #28373. Bland says MS63 and tied for CC#6. Our grade is MS63+. This is the plate coin for the variety in the Newcomb reference on the cents of 1816-1857 (Plates VII & VIII). A very attractive cent that comes with an important provenance. The attribution and Newcomb-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 5; 2 finer in 65 for the variety. PCGS #37061. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP
