Slave Bill of Sale - 1864. Manuscript document signed by Michael Hart and S. Y. Coen, 6 x 4 in. (place illegible), Jan. 19, 1864. Acknowledging receipt from Mary H. Harmon of two thousand dollars "in full consideration for a negro woman named Manerva aged about twenty five years…." Manerva's value would have been predicated on the fact that any children she had would all be slaves and worth money. Fortunately for Manerva, slavery would end in less than a year and a half with the end of the Civil War. Fold repair on verso. Estimated Value $200 - 300

Realized $210
