Lot 14

1817 N-6 R1 PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Lustrous light bluish steel brown with traces of faded mint red remaining on the obverse. The surfaces are satiny and the eye appeal is excellent, very close to choice. The only marks are a speck of dark toning right of star 3, another left of star 6, and a third between the N & T in CENT. Kept from choice by a tiny, barely visible scuff on the curl before the ear. MDS. The fields are covered with fine radial die flowlines and the dentils are starting to weaken, although they remain complete around both sides. Struck very slightly off center to K-6. Previously removed from a PCGS slab graded MS65 Brown (PCGS label #36565.65/15104744). Called MS63 by Noyes and tied for CC#2 in his census, photo #31007. Our grade is MS62+, close to MS63. The attribution and Naftzger-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 6 finer, 2 in 64+, 3 in 65, 1 in 65+ for the variety. PCGS #36565. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP
