Lot 136

1834 N-3 R1 Large 8, Small Stars PCGS graded MS65 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Highly lustrous medium bluish steel brown and olive with 15% of the mint red showing on the obverse, 30% on the reverse. The surfaces are covered with satiny mint frost, even the highest points of the devices, and this cent offers exceptional eye appeal. The best identifying mark, and it is barely visible, is a tiny planchet chip at a dentil root left of star 4 (as struck). MDS with a very fine die crack through stars 12 & 13. There is a fine double profile on the upper lip, chin, ear, and LIBERTY (from die bounce), and the reverse is rotated 30 degrees clockwise. A wonderful cent. Graded MS65 Choice and finest known in the Noyes census, his photo #27043. Bland says MS64 and CC#1 of the confirmed examples of the variety. Our grade is MS65. The attribution and Newcomb-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; tied for finest RB of the variety at both services. PCGS #37037. Estimate Value $4,000 - UP
