1855 $1 Gold Indian. PCGS graded AU-50. Nicely toned and lustrous, a Premium Quality example. This Type 2 design lasted from 1854 to 1856 and is one of the more attractive Gold Dollar designs. However, due to the alignment of the high, small Liberty Head against the reverse legend 1 DOLLAR, striking difficulties arose and the design was modified for a second time in 1856-89 (Type 3) (PCGS # 7532) .
