Lot 135

1834 N-2 R1 Small 8, Large Stars, Medium Letters PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown. Lustrous steel and light chocolate brown with 15-20% of the original mint red remaining. No spots or stains, just a few minor marks. The only notable marks are a few thin, light nicks in the field before the face and a thin scuff under TA in STATES. Nicely struck EDS. Both sides show die cracks (as always on this variety), the fields are smooth, and small spikes extend from the tips of the dentils from star 13 clockwise to star 2. Great eye appeal in spite of the minor contact marks. Called MS63 Choice and tied for CC#4 in the Noyes census, his photo #21658. Bland says MS63 and tied for CC#2. Our grade is MS63. Comes with a nice provenance. The attribution and Naftzger-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; tied for finest RB of the variety at both services. PCGS #37055. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP
