1857-D $1 Gold Indian. NGC graded MS-61. A highlight for any D-mint gold collection, this softly frosted, brilliant-gold colored Mint State example has smooth surfaces that rotate gently under a light. The obverse is fairly weak in striking detail at the center hair above Liberty's brow, but the reverse is more sharply defined with the only noticeable softness over the ribbon that binds the wreath. We emphasize, however, that these striking variables are often found on representatives of this poorly produced issue. There is some shallow clashing visible on both sides, but mainly on the reverse. An important D-mint Gold Dollar. Only 3,533 struck. Pop 1; 6 in MS62. (PCGS # 7546) .
