Lot 133

1804 C-13 R1 Plain 4 without Stems VG10. Triple Struck Off Center over an Off-Center Reverse Brockage. Glossy medium chocolate brown with areas of darker olive brown and steel on both sides. The surfaces are decent but there are traces of extremely fine granularity on both sides. Only a few trivial contact marks including a rim nick just left of the date. This planchet was struck at least 3 times. One strike is centered on the planchet, and under this strike is an off-center reverse brockage with clear remnants of the incuse fraction at the bust tip. In addition an impression of a new blank planchet positioned off center arcs through the O in OF into the wreath. The most interesting strike was a tab impression about 90% off center to K-9 leaving LIB clearly visible behind the portrait and the U from UNITED showing over TE in the "normal" UNITED. A really neat half cent that clearly displays several types of mint errors. And it comes from a famous collection.
Estimated Value $500-UP.
