Lot 132

1833 N-5 R1 Repunched 8 PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown. Lustrous mint red fading to medium brown and steel with more than half the mint color remaining. The only marks are some small splashes of darker chocolate brown toning on both sides, the largest of these in the field between star 3 and the chin. LDS. Both dies are cracked and the stray 8 hidden in the dentils under the normal 8 is gone. The repunching at the top of the normal 8 is dull but visible and the repunching at ICA is nearly gone. The reverse is rotated 30 degrees clockwise relative to the normal head-to-foot die orientation. Our grade is MS63. The attribution and Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 3 finer in 65 for the variety. PCGS #37031. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP
Discovered behind a wall in an old house in Connecticut (two pieces were discovered hidden there, this being the finer of the two)-unknown-Doug Bird 10/1988-Manuel Ahumada Collection.
