Lot 129

1833 N-2 R2 PCGS graded MS65 Red & Brown. The obverse is lustrous light brown and chocolate with underlying very faded red showing through in the fields and protected areas. The reverse is nearly full original bright mint red. Almost flawless in every respect. The only defects are some very light contact marks in the field before the face and a few marks on the edge suggesting this cent was displayed on a board resting against pins or tacks placed around the edge (the contrast in toning supports this idea). LDS. The dies are worn and the repunching found on parts of ONE CENT in the earlier states is gone. Die bounce has created a clear double profile from the forehead down to the chin with additional doubling on LIBERTY, the eye, and on several letters of ONE CENT (not to be confused with repunching). Struck with the reverse rotated 45 degrees clockwise. A very impressive cent. Graded MS63 and CC#3 in the Bland census. Our grade is MS63+. Previously removed from an NGC slab graded MS66RB (NGC label #306806-029). The attribution and Sheldon-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 1 finer in 66 for the variety. PCGS #37022. Estimate Value $2,000 - UP
