Lot 1248

Great Britain. Proof Sovereign, 1887. WR-331. Bu William Wyon. Reeded edge. Victoria. Young head left. Reverse: Crowned square topped shield within laurel branches. A lovely, dazzling brilliant coin with wonderful eye-appeal. An exceptional rarity for the connoisseur. Extremely Rare. NGC graded Proof 64 Cameo.

As indicated in the Douglas-Morris sale: Since no currency sovereigns of this type and the following type (St. George reverse) were issued by the London Mint, it has been suggested that these proofs could be trials (without mintmarks) for colonial sovereigns.
Estimated Value $20,000 - 25,000.
