MacNeil, Hermon Atkins - Remarkable Archive of Designer of the Standing Liberty. From the collection of Walter Merriam Pratt, 19th Century Industrialist from Massachusetts, a comprehensive archive of artist and sculptor, Hermon Atkins MacNeil who designed the Standing Liberty Quarter. His initial design included a bare-breasted Liberty which he quickly redesigned for more modest sensibilities. Coin was produced from 1916-1930 with at least three modifications. In the collection is a number of letters and documents signed, a 6" x 8" black and white image of the model, still in its original vintage frame (some chips to plaster and gilt of swivel frame), a signed and inscribed portrait by the artist, and almost 50 autographed and typed letters signed to a variety of notables including leading architects of the time. Finally, an extremely desirable and rare plaster maquette by MacNeil for a sculpture 10 x 7" of a Navajo Indian etched/signed in plaster by MacNeil and dated July, 1917 and in excellent condition. All together impressive collection of one of the great coin designers of the early 20th Century. Estimated Value $800-UP
