Lot 1200
1815. 5 Over 2. . O-101. PCGS graded AU-53 PQ. CAC Approved. Lovely toning on both sides. A natural-toned, still partly lustrous example with surfaces to die for on both sides: smooth, mainly free of marks. Nicely struck as well, with just a hint of weakness at the eagle’s wing. Bullion deposits in the mint fell off dramatically as 1815 dawned, with the country still under siege from the British forces during America’s War of 1812 (as opposed to the French-Russian War the same year). Few half dollars were coined; almost all of them saw extensive wear in circulation. Pop 11; 40 finer (PCGS # 6108) . Estimated Value $5,000 - 5,500.
