Lot 112

1795 S-80 R5+ Jefferson Head Cent PCGS Genuine, Fine Details, Damaged. Variety with a Plain Edge. Sharpness near VF20 but damaged. There are more than a half dozen dull dents, mostly on the obverse, plus a straight clip out of the planchet at the rim behind the portrait (probably created post-striking). The strongest dents are in the center of the reverse, and these created a bulge in the center of the obverse. Dark steel brown and chocolate. The planchet is covered with fine granularity but there is no verdigris. Nicely detailed in spite of the obvious damage. The date is clear except for the bottom of the 7, which is affected by one of the dents, and the legends are complete. Even some of the nicer examples of this variety are missing parts of the legends or design elements due to strike issues or wear, and problem-free examples are unknown. Seldom offered in any grade. Our grade is net AG3. Listed on page 99 in the "Redbook." Weight 191.7 grains. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Estimated Value $10,000-UP

Realized $18,213
